My name is Desiree Tellis and I am 17 years old. I was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 18th, 1992. I am a senior at King College Prep High School. I have three sisters and no brothers. After high school I plan on pioneering, which is an activity in which I devote 80 hours of my time each month to preach to people about Jehovah (God). I plan to pursue a career in business & financing at DePaul University. My career goal is to own my own daycare. My goal in life is to be content and to help others to learn to do the same and also to help others to learn how they can have peaceful lives.

Suluhu is a Chicago dragon who believes in peace over violence. In fact Suluhu means peace in Swahili. He's always bouncing and flying with glee. With a heart like a magnet, Suluhu is able to attract those who have never felt compassion. Suluhu is a firm believer in giving respect to receive respect. By putting his three brains together, Suluhu is able to inspire others. Suluhu has the ability to move others with his fiery words. Although he doesn’t have feet, Suluhu has the power to put himself in others’ shoes. Finally, he is able to whack out CRIME with his mighty tail.
Solomohn Ennis is the publisher of Black Freighter Productions, and an M.S.W. student at Loyola University Chicago. Solomohn's love of literature and human behavior led her toward the field of social work, because social work's primary purpose is to study, support, and improve the lives of people in their environment. Upon graduation, Solomohn will pursue a career that will combine publishing and therapy. As a bibliotherapist she will focus on paraphilia, cognitive behavioral therapy, and improving the lives of people who have been affected by sexual abuse.
Rachel Kibblesmith is an M.S.W student at Loyola University Chicagos School of Social Work. She is specializing in School Social Work and has focused on Children and Family Services. Rachel has worked in schools with children and families in Chicagos south side as a counselor and program facilitator and evaluator, and in LaGrange Park IL as a school social work intern. Rachel enjoys working with children, specifically populations of children and families who harbor a multitude of unmet and challenging needs, and hopes to continue to work with children and education upon graduating from her Masters in Social Work Program in May, 2010.
Professor Katherine Tyson McCrea, the Principal Investigator, brings to her leadership of this project decades of experience in clinical social work practice and research with individuals and groups, especially in disadvantaged and socially traumatized communities, in this country and abroad. A Professor at the Loyola University School of Social Work, she teaches child therapy, clinical research, and global social work. She has authored numerous articles about innovative approaches to therapy for children and severely mentally ill clients, evaluation of social work services , and social work's approaches to research. Professor McCrea feels extremely appreciative of being able to work with such a great partnership of community schools, social service agencies, faculty, students, and, above all, the youth of Stand Up! Help Out!
Jeffrey Bulanda is currently an assistant professor at Aurora University. He completed his masters and doctoral work at Loyola University Chicago School of Social Work. He has been the Program Director for the Empowering Counseling Program since its inception in Summer 2006. He is committed to issues of social justice and is advancing this agenda through participatory research. Additionally, he is committed to providing and researching effective social work services for disadvantaged youth and families and providing a quality education for social work students.
